There is a familiar face heading the local RCMP detachment.

Gary Church, who has been with the RCMP for 28 years, has been promoted to Staff Sergeant.

Church has had a long history in Fort St. James. He first came to the community as a constable in 1981 and was a constable when he left in 1987.

“I went to the Yukon, Ontario, and then to the Northwest Territories,” he said. “Then I cam back here in 1996 as a corporal.”

Church enjoyed the community and decided to come back. He has been here for the past 13 years.

“It is a beautiful place to live, has nice lake, a ski hill, nice friendly people, and it is a nice place to live,” he said. “You don’t have the hustle and bustle of a larger centre. You are close enough to Prince George for other amenities that you don’t have in Fort St. James.”

Staff Sergeant Church is the Fort St. James NCO in charge.

Church said that he would continue with the detachment priorities of Road Safety 2010, drug and alcohol, and dealing with the youth.
