Nak’azdli First Nation

Welcome to Nak’azdli First Nation, British Columbia

General Information

The village is located on Necoslie I.R. No. 1, adjacent to Fort St. James. There is some dispersed housing on I.R. No 1A. Nak’azdli First Nation services 16 reserves totaling 1,458 hectares.

History

There was once a great battle at the mouth of the river between Native groups and Nak’azdli means “when arrows were flying”.

Economic Activities

Much of the economic activities revolve around forestry, arts and crafts, some trapping, a house construction business. They are also one of three partners in Sustut Holdings Ltd. Revenues are also generated from leasing 12 lakeshore lots and a trucking company.

Affiliations

Carrier-Sekani Tribal Council (CSTC)

CSTC represents members from seven First Nations who belong to the CSTC association. Five thousand members make up the membership of the seven First Nations, which includes Burns Lake Band (Ts’il Kaz Koh First Nation), Nak’azdli Band, Nad’leh Whuten, Saik’uz First Nation, Takla Lake First Nation, Tl’azt’en Nation, and Wet’suwet’en First Nation.

The Tribal Council is an advocate for, and frequently represents the interests of, its member-nations. The Council also provides technical and professional services to its member-nations in such areas as fisheries, education, economic development, community and infrastructure planning, forestry, financial management, and treaty negotiations.
