Nechako Valley Winterfest

Come and help us celebrate the one year countdown to the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Winterfest Event Schedule

Seasonal Affective Disorder got you down? How about taking in some of the wacky and fun Winterfest events taking place at a variety of venues all around town throughout February. It’s time to drag out your dancing shoes, turn on your smiley muscles and set your moodometer on ‘fun.’ Come out and celebrate Spirit of BC Week from February 6-14 and then enjoy the Annual Sterling Sturgeon Film Festival the following weekend and the NVSS drama performances Thursday, Feb. 19 and Friday, Feb. 20.

The District of Vanderhoof’s new Recreation Coordinator Sarrah Storey has listed so many events in February’s Winterfest manual that you’ll have to take time off to fit them all in. Sarrah has been working on the huge list of activities since Christmas time, and from all indications, there’s an event planned for every interest, for every age group and for every resident of the valley.

The Winterfest events kick off with skating, curling, hockey, a children’s festival, art activities and Aikido – all planned for the first weekend, Feb 6-8. The children’s festival on Saturday, Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. will be so much fun your children may never want to leave the McLeod Elementary Gym. If your interest is more into forms of self defense and peace of mind, then a visit to Sensei Moyer’s Aikido drop-in at NVSS from 9 a.m to 1 p.m might be more to your liking. With winter nipping at everyone’s heals, a few hours of spiritual enlightenment with Sensei Moyer and learning how to gain control over your opponent using your energy may just be what the doctor ordered.

The events that continue after the opening weekend, are a snowshoe scavenger hunt, carpet bowling, dancing, singing, art, aerobics for seniors, dog sledding, more hockey and skating and the top-off event on Friday the thirteenth – a Winterfest (alcohol-free) Family Dance open to all families. To learn more details on all these exciting events, place a call to the District of Vanderhoof office and refer to the detailed events calendar in this issue.
